Subgrade Preparation in Colorado
Everything you pour or pave is only as good as what’s underneath it. Subgrade preparation turns existing ground into a foundation that won’t settle, heave, or crack the surface above it. On the Front Range that means dealing with expansive clay, moisture-sensitive soils, and a freeze-thaw cycle that punishes anything built on a soft pad.
Our crews test as we go, adjust moisture in the field, and hand the pad over ready for your flatwork or paving crew.
What’s included
- Excavation and removal of unsuitable soils
- Cut and fill operations
- Fine grading to design elevation
- Soil conditioning and moisture treatment
- Aggregate base placement
- Compaction and proof rolling
- Preparation for concrete flatwork
- Preparation for asphalt paving
- Roadway and parking lot preparation
- Sidewalk, curb, gutter and driveway prep
Where we do this work
Parking lots, roadways, residential driveways, sidewalks, alleys, building pads, concrete flatwork, and commercial developments across the Denver metro and Northern Colorado.
Service 02
Earthwork & Grading
Site clearing through finish grade. GPS machine control keeps us on design elevation and cuts rework on large open lots, which matters most on overlot grading where a tenth of a foot across ten acres is a lot of dirt in the wrong place.
We build to your surveyor’s design surface with less staking and fewer grade checks.
What’s included
- Site clearing
- Excavation
- Sub grade prep
- Soils stabilization
- Backfill
- Compaction
- Rough and finish grading
- GPS machine control
Where we do this work
Overlot grading for subdivisions, building pads, commercial site development, roadway embankments, drainage and pond work, and phased developments that run multiple seasons.
Service 03
Erosion Control
We protect exposed soil and keep sediment on site, helping contractors and developers hold a compliant, stabilized job through every phase of construction.
Measures get installed on schedule, inspected, and repaired when weather takes them out, so your stormwater file stays clean.
What’s included
- Silt fence installation
- Straw wattles
- Erosion control blankets
- Inlet protection
- Construction entrances
- Sediment control
- Site stabilization
- Drainage and runoff protection
- Maintenance and repairs
Where we do this work
New subdivisions, commercial developments, roadway projects, utility work, grading projects, and any site that needs temporary stormwater protection while it’s open.
Service 04
Asphalt Milling
Cold milling for asphalt rehabilitation, removing worn surface to a specified depth so new mat can be placed to grade. Clean vertical edges, consistent depth, and millings hauled off as part of the same scope.
What’s included
- Full-width milling
- Partial-width milling
- Edge milling
- Utility and patch cut-outs
- Millings hauled and disposed
- Surface preparation for overlay
Where we do this work
Roadway rehabilitation, parking lot resurfacing, utility trench restoration, and any surface being prepped for an asphalt overlay.
Service 05
Patching & Demolition
From selective removals to complete demolition, we provide dependable preparation and removal for concrete, asphalt, and other site improvements. We focus on safely removing existing materials while preparing the area for its next phase.
What’s included
- Asphalt removal and demolition
- Concrete removal
- Sidewalk removal
- Curb and gutter removal
- Alley and driveway demolition
- Saw cutting
- Selective demolition
- Removal and disposal
- Excavation following demolition
- Subgrade preparation after removal
Where we do this work
Asphalt patches, damaged concrete, sidewalk replacement, curb and gutter replacement, roadway repairs, parking lot renovations, and site redevelopment.
Service 06
Trucking & Hauling
Intrastate trucking under our own DOT authority. Material in, spoils out, machinery mobilized, on our schedule rather than a broker’s. Because the trucks are ours, hauling is part of the scope instead of a separate sub you have to chase.
What’s included
- Machinery mobilization (lowboy services)
- Material import and export
- Semi Trucks (18-wheelers)
- Unsuitable soils removal
- Demolition debris transport
Where we do this work
Importing road base for a parking lot, hauling structural fill to a development, removing unsuitable soils, transporting demolition debris, and coordinating heavy machinery deliveries for roadway construction.
Service 07
Snow Removal in Colorado
The same loaders and skid steers that move dirt through the construction season move snow through the winter. We clear lots, drive lanes, and access points with equipment, and we put people with shovels on the walks and entries that equipment cannot reach.
Front Range winters do not run on a schedule, and neither does the work. We own the machines and employ the operators, so a storm does not put us in line behind someone else’s customers.
What’s included
- Parking lot clearing with loaders
- Drive lane and access road clearing
- Skid steer work in tight areas and along curb lines
- Hand shoveling for walkways, entries, and stairs
Where we do this work
Commercial parking lots, drive lanes, access roads, walkways, and entries across the Denver metro and Northern Colorado.
Common Questions
What general contractors ask us.
Do you handle the haul-off of unsuitable material?
Yes. We run our own trucks under our own DOT authority, so export of unsuitable soils and import of structural fill are part of the same scope. No separate hauling sub, no waiting on a broker.
Can you work off a GPS model?
Yes. Our grading equipment runs machine control, so we can build to your surveyor's design surface with less staking and fewer grade checks.
What size jobs do you take?
Our projects generally run from about $8,000 to $2.5 million. That covers everything from a single residential driveway to a municipal roadway package or a multi-year development.
How do you know when a subgrade is ready to pave?
A subgrade is ready when it holds design elevation within tolerance, meets the compaction specified by the geotechnical report, and passes a proof roll without pumping or rutting. We coordinate directly with your testing agency so the sign-off happens on schedule rather than the morning the paving crew shows up.
Why does moisture treatment matter so much in Colorado?
Front Range soils swing hard between too wet and too dry, and compaction only works inside a narrow moisture window. If the material is dry we water and mix it; if it's wet we disc and aerate it. Skipping that step is the most common reason a pad fails compaction and the whole schedule slides a week.
How soon can you mobilize?
It depends on the season and current backlog. Call estimating direct at 303.385.3666 and we'll tell you honestly where you'd fall in the schedule.
